Saudi Arabia’s Personal Data Protection Law Enters Its First Year and Brings About Significant Changes

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is entering its first year of implementing its Personal Data Protection Law, which came into effect on September 14, 2024. A series of amendments and implementing guidelines have recently been introduced, reinforcing the commitment of institutions to protecting the privacy of individuals, including those within and outside the Kingdom.
A new system for digitally documenting employment contracts has been implemented in the Kingdom.

The new system allows for immediate verification of contract data, contributing to a reduction in labor disputes and enhancing trust between parties in the Saudi labor market. This aligns with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals for digital transformation and improving the efficiency of the business environment.
Wage protection in employment contracts is a key priority in the Kingdom

The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development and the Ministry of Justice have announced that the wage clause in employment contracts has become directly enforceable through the electronic platform, allowing employees to submit an enforcement request within five days of receiving the notification in cases of non-payment or partial payment of wages.
Significant Changes to Saudi Arbitration Law Soon

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has launched a comprehensive review of its Arbitration Law and its implementing regulations, undertaken by entities such as the National Competitiveness Center, the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Justice, and others. This review aims to enhance and facilitate the arbitration environment and attract more international disputes to Saudi Arabia.
